The "Cape Codder" was a
passenger train operated byAmtrak betweenNew York City andHyannis, Massachusetts onCape Cod . It ran only during theweekend of thesummer , as Cape Cod is best-known as aseasonal vacation destination . Its one weekly trip arrived at Hyannis Friday evening and left Sunday morning. The "Cape Codder" was operated as trains 234 eastbound and 235 westbound, and began operations
June 29 ,1986 . Service ceased ten years later due to declining ridership. The limited schedule, coupled with the fact that passengers found it difficult to navigate the cape without an automobile at their disposal, severly curtailed ridership.
