- Ken Gernander
Ken Gernander (born
June 30 ,1969 inColeraine, Minnesota ) is retired Americanice hockey player and currently head coach for theHartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. He played for the University of Minnesota for four years and was drafted by theWinnipeg Jets in the fifth round of the1987 NHL Entry Draft .Throughout his 10+ professional seasons, he played mostly for the
New York Rangers farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He served as the team's captain from 1997 to 2004. He is the Wolf Pack's all-time franchise record-holder in points (347), games-played (599) and playoff games-played (78). Gernander also ranks second all-time in goals (160) and assists (187) in Hartford franchise history. Despite these accomplishments, Gernander was rarely ever called up to play for the Rangers; he appeared in only 27 NHL games over the course of his career. He retired after the 2004–2005 season.On July 23, 2007, the Wolf Pack announced that Gernander would replace
Jim Schoenfeld as head coach. Schoenfeld had been promoted to assistantgeneral manager of theNew York Rangers .On October 8, 2005, the Hartford Wolf Pack Retired his number 12 into the rafter of the XL Center.
